On
this page you'll find lots of links to hopefully get you what you came
for ... some
pics, some
stories
and the self-indulgency only a personal webpage can afford.
Have
you seen me lately? Well maybe you have! I've met thousands of people through the parties and events
my wife Deven and I have hosted
as founders of the Northwest's largest plus-size social group, BBW Northwest.
When we began in 2000, it was based on our belief that a group based on
size acceptance should be accepting of everyone of
every size, not a "fat admirer" group based on divas and
fetishists. Since its creation in 2000, we've had over 50,000 people
join. My blog
talks about the
local BBW scene, life, love, and other bullshit.
Over the years
BBW Northwest suffered some slings and arrows from jealous critics and
groups that have long since come and gone, but it's the
terrific friends we've made that have encouraged us to continue working
toward fostering more confidence, self-respect and esteem for our king
and queen-sized members. Join us!
I've been a
professional DJ and party host since 1979 performing at thousands of
events for my company, Party Hits
Entertainment. My clients include Nordstrom, Macy's, IKEA,
Verizon,
United Airlines, Nabisco, Texaco, and Microsoft. I'm founder of the Seattle Disc Jockey
Association, and blog about the mobile DJ industry
on DJTalk.com. I've also
started hosting my Dangerous
Karaoke show at bars around Seattle. It's a blast to be
unfiltered and say all the things I never could when I worked on the
radio.
Prior to me
coming to the Seattle
area in 1996, I did my thing on stations including New Orleans'
WTIX, WQUE and KHOM-104 and
Mississippi's SL-100, WQID and
WXYK/KISS-FM.
It gave me terrific insight on what a personal medium local radio really
is. A shame that the trend of that medium is automation, syndication and
fewer local DJs/personalities. If broadcast radio is ever to win over
iPods, satellite radio or streaming internet stations, I believe they
need to return to their roots
as a live and local community voice.
I'm
not embarrassed to admitthat I liked the 70's. And Disco music. (Still do!) Sure it's a cliché now, but to those of us
who lived it - rather than watched the sitcom - it might have been the
last decade with a glint of innocence. Yes, that isSylvester Stallone, whom I met in 1976 courtesy of a radio contest.
Sure my Afro got a little tighter in the 80's, but my not my funky
tinted aviator glasses. I remember making stacks of that photo to reply
to personal ads. That was a whole other adventure and I met lots of
great women. Bless the internet for those odd emails I'll get now and
then. You found me!
There were a certain number of benefits in being
on the radio.
Gotta love the free pizza and concert tickets. Melissa Etheridge did the "meet and
greet" with me (though she seemed more friendly
toward my female contest winners) during her 1995 concert tour. I've also gotten to
shake hands with Barry Manilow, Chuck Berry, Rush Limbaugh, Wolfman Jack,
Gene
Simmons, Dan Aykroyd
and a Beach Boy (I forget which one). I traded the radio headphones to
direct my years of advertising and marketing experience into being a
self-styled internet impresario and marketing guru. Maybe you've seen TV
commercials I produced, heard jingles I've written or seen websites I
designed. I've been lucky to have huge companies like America Online and
Microsoft write me a lot of checks for my talents. And I've learned to
love the smell of erasable markers, talk about "conversion rates" and
throw around acronyms like SEO and CTR.
And
then there's Ben. Who would think
at age 16 someone would have such a robust interest in politics and business?
He's blissfully becoming aware that the best opportunities are given to those
who work for them. Maybe that's why he spends an inordinate amount of time on
his hair! Except for the piles of trash and laundry in his room, he's my pride
and joy.
On
weekends you'll find him texting his girlfriend, taunting people all over the
world on Xbox Live, running the message board of his favorite WWII
online game, or writing his own futuristic novels.
And
Deven, who knows the difference between Dan and Daniel...and
for some strange reason seems to love them both.
